Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's publicist leaves in less than a year
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's publicist Meredith Maines steps down
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have parted ways with another publicist, making her the 11th publicist to leave in five years.
Meredith Maines, Chief Communications Officer, is leaving after just under a year with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“She’s unflappable, and does not complain… she really enjoyed her time there, but at a certain point it’s time to go,” a source close to Maines told Page Six.
With experience in tech and venture capital, Maines brought a nontraditional background to the role, managing Meghan’s podcast and TV projects and overseeing Harry’s charity work.
“She did what she needed to do,” the source added, noting that Maines already has several projects lined up for 2026 and is “very excited.”
Maines also confirmed in a statement, “After a year of inspiring work with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archewell, I will be pursuing a new opportunity in 2026. I have the utmost gratitude and respect for the couple and the team, and the good they are doing in the world.”
A spokesperson for the couple also confirmed the departure, saying, “Meredith Maines and Method Communications have concluded their work with Archewell. The Duke and Duchess are grateful for their contributions and wish them well.”
Maines’ role will not be replaced, with UK and Europe communications director Liam Maguire stepping in as lead.
The news comes as Archewell Philanthropies lays off more staff. Earlier this month, 60% of the organization’s team was let go due to funding challenges.
The downsizing comes after the couple left royal duties in 2020, moved to California, and launched Archewell while expanding Meghan’s projects, including the As Ever brand and Netflix series With Love, Meghan.
