Meghan Markle ‘tried to take control’ during her last royal Christmas, expert claims
Expert re-examined Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's last royal Christmas
The last Christmas that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent with the Royal Family has been re-examined by a body language expert, who claims the Duchess of Sussex attempted to “take charge” during what appeared to be an uncomfortable and isolating moment for the couple.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last joined the royalds at Sandringham in December 2018, just months before their dramatic exit from royal life.
At the time, Meghan was pregnant with the couple’s first child, Prince Archie, and tensions within the family were already rumoured to be bubbling beneath the surface.
Although the pair smiled and waved as they joined the traditional Christmas Day walk to St Mary Magdalene Church, body language expert Judi James believes their final festive appearance masked deeper issues.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Judi said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared “isolated, ignored and awkward” during the walkout, suggesting a breakdown in their connection with the wider family.
“Harry has decided to gaze across at his father with a smile of affection, although his ‘paperclip’ hand clasp of his jacket suggests he’s distressed here by possible feelings of rejection,” Judi explained.
The expert went on to claim that Meghan appeared to step in during the uncomfortable exchange, subtly attempting to steer her husband through what she described as a “disastrous” interaction.
Judi suggested there was a noticeable shift in roles between the royal-born Harry and his American wife, with Meghan appearing to guide him both physically and emotionally.
“The impression here is that she knows the rules in terms of royal behaviour and that it’s Harry who now needs to be steered,” she said.
“It’s not just resting in a gesture of affection,” Judi explained. “We can see her inner two fingers apparently pressed hard into Harry’s arm as she pulls him in her intended direction.”
According to the body language expert, Meghan also maintained what she described as an “exaggeratedly gracious smile”, masking the tension while quietly issuing subtle cues and commands.
“She is directing Harry verbally as well as physically without allowing the strenuous smile to shift from her face,” Judi said, adding that the Duchess’s acting background may have helped her maintain composure during the moment.
